Child Care: Help. 11 Year Old Self-Inflicting Injuries

samedi 21 mars 2015

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: IL

My ex and I have been divorced since 2010 and have 50/50 custody of the 11 year old twin children. We have both remarried. My ex married a divorced woman with two teenage kids. One of these kids torments my child with ADHD terribly.

Recently my 11 year old child came home with a mark made by the metal piece of a manual pencil sharpener on the left hand. The school social worker called me and discussed how this appears to be the beginning of a cutting behavior. Apparently, my child had been playing with this, which a classmate placed on the child's desk.

My child also has ADHD as well as some anxiety behaviors. I communicated this information to the child's father via OFW as he will not have a conversation with me. When we met for school conferences Friday morning all he could say was "Why wasn't I notified?" He can't talk to me; he only talks to my husband. My ex is still so hostile toward me that we cannot have a conversation regarding the children, and now, I see the situation for my children deteriorating quickly. I can't help but feel horribly guilty for leaving the marriage in the first place, seeing all the pain this has inflicted on my children.

I would like to petition for a change in visitation as I believe the children need a more stable environment. I want to get my child the necessary help. Do I have a chance of changing visitation to a more traditional family model?

As always, thank you for your help.
