My question involves small claims court in the state of: California
I have worked as a freelancer for a company based in El Segundo and they are now in violation of our contract.
Said contract states that my invoices are to be paid withing 45 days, which have passed a few days ago. Since then I have been in contact with them by email and telephone but so far I was unable to get any specific date or time frame I would be paid in.
A quick google search shows that this company owes money to a number of its freelancers and I have therefore little hope an amiable solution can be reached.
I have done some reading already and it seems that the small claims court is a viable option, as they owe me more than $4000.
Since I live in Germany and I understand that one usually defends oneself in small claim courts, would you have any pointers as to what I can do from afar?
Would I be able to employ the help of a Californian law firm under these circumstances?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
