Cleaning and Repairs: Landlord Used My Free Credit Report to Check My Credit and is Now Charging Excesively

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas

So a year ago when I was looking for a rental house I had a lot of trouble finding a place in this small town that would let me have a dog. I finally had found one but the secretary called me one day and asked me if I had used my free credit report for Transunion this year. I said that I check all of my credit reports every year so she called my renting reference who responded favorably and they agreed to let me rent from them. I thought using my free credit report was shady but as I was desperate to find a place (graduated college and was starting a new job in a new town) so I just let it slide. This is illegal right?

Fast forward a year and I just transferred to another city. Yesterday I got the bill for damages where my dog had ripped a hole in the carpet and they were outlandish. I thought I wasn't going to get my deposit back at most. They're charging me $1k more than that!

Now, given all this info, what would you do?

P.S. I requested they send me their quotes and they did but they make no sense.
