My question involves a marriage in the state of:California and possible Louisiana law.
Apologies if this post is in the wrong forum.
Quick timeline:
-Married wife in Ca. 9 yrs ago
-6 months later she packed and left, haven't laid eyes on her since.
-Approx. 10 months later get phone call, she had a child but "don't worry, it's not yours" (her words). Unfortunately unable to save her phone number.
-Approx. 3 years after marriage date, msg on machine is her stating she has 'some papers' for me to sign, but failed to leave contact phone number. Have not heard from her since and no 'papers' were ever sent.
-From a combination of my foolishness and more often than not an inability to afford a divorce, I have not filed for divorce.
Fast forward to now. Received letter from Louisiana Children and Family Services.
Letter roughly states- *She reported to their agency I am legal husband. She has a child and I may be the legal father. If I am the legal father, then I will need to assist them in making a permanent plan for the child's care. *
What does this mean? What am I to expect when I have to contact them? I'm in far worse shape financially then I have ever been. No work, no vehicle, moved back with parent.
I'm a nervous wreck and don't know what to do.
Please help, I need advice.
