My question involves criminal law for the state of: California.
I was caught at Target today for shoplifting, and was brought to the back LP room by security. After they made me empty out the merchandise that I took, they told me that I was banned from the store that I stole from for one year, that I will be receiving a notice in the mail to collect 3-4 times the amount that I stole (the amount I stole I estimate to be about 90-100USD). LP said they weren't going to call the cops (and they didn't, no cops were involved) and I was let out of the store after they tried to get me to sign something (which I didn't sign), and they made a photocopy of my ID.
My question, after some brief research online, is what will happen to me now? Will they press criminal charges? Will this go on my record? Should I stay out of ALL Targets from here on out?
