A cousin of mine spoke to me 3 years ago about putting a truck in my name. He told me his reason was having too many vehicles. I saw no problem with that I agreed but signed nothing. Few months later I start receiving highway bills with plates registered to a truck in my name. He kept saying he'd pay me back. Never did, I ended up paying it and got the plates canceled. Now I got papers stating that a third party claim has been filed against me, my cousin, the salesman for the truck and the dealership where it was bought. He apparently got a girl he was dating to fill out the sales contract for the truck. She hasn't been paying it and now the back is suing her. She wants to sue us. I had nothing to do with any of this and have never met these people before aside from my cousin. Her lawyer called me and told me that she was given a separate form that has my signature and bank information stating that money would be coming out my account to pay for the truck. The form was sent to me by email. The signature is forged and the bank information is not mine. Probably forged by my cousin who has seen my signature before. You can tell it isn't mine though. The form isn't completely filled out and doesn't list me as a cobuyer or anything. She filled out most of it. That form was given to her separately and I don't believe it was ever submitted as the back hasn't mentioned me. It says that my name is no where on the actual sales contract that they have. Could I be held responsible for this vehicle? Should I get a lawyer or will the dealership handle it as we seem to be sued as a group... Thank you for any advice.
