Traffic Lane Violations: Traffic Ticket. Am I Able to Contest the Ticket

jeudi 5 mars 2015

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

I recently received a traffic ticket violating VC21651(a)(2). The officer stated I crossed double yellow lines.

Here is a photo of where the event occurred: http://ift.tt/1NmXTik

I was driving on the right side and merged into the middle divider section where it was still broken yellow lines. I then turned left into the plaza where a gas station was present. I did exactly what the silver car in the photo was doing. Making a left turn from the yellow line divider. It seems as if the broken yellow lines turn into solid double yellow lines. I made sure that there was no oncoming traffic to make the turn as well.

Many cars do this every day to turn into the gas station. Even as I was getting my ticket written up I saw 2 cars attempt to do exactly what I had just did. This is my first offense/ticket ever. I don't have much money to begin with and am a college student. I really do try my best to drive responsibly and would never break the law willfully. I believe the officer mentioned it would result in a point on my record. Would my insurance rate through AAA increase if I receive this one point? I'm under my parent's insurance plan as well.

Is there any way to contest the ticket?
