Speeding Tickets: Clocked at an Impossible Speed

vendredi 13 mars 2015

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Georgia.

On the way to savannah I got pulled over and cited by a state trooper. He claims that his supervisor was on the overpass and clocked me at 98 mph. I did not argue because I was speeding and I know better, but my issue is that my GMC Envoy's upper limit cuts off at 96 mph. Before he clocked me I was traveling at around 80-83 mph until some wise guy in a silver SUV tried to pass me in the midst of light traffic. I got a little road rage and sped up equally as fast to block him from doing so. About 2 miles down the road I get pulled over after I had slowed down and was back to cruising around 80.

After he wrote the ticket I did explain the situation and why I had been excessively speeding to the officer and suggested that maybe he clocked the wrong vehicle, because my speed cap is 96 and both vehicles are silver SUVs. He asked for a description of the vehicle, but played a little "dumb" because he claimed the only other SUV he saw was a gold Yukon.

Is this ticket worth protesting and do you think if I represent myself in court that my fine may be reduced? I would be representing myself.

Thanks
