My question involves personal property located in the State of: Virginia

Reposting..previous thread went to the wrong forum under the title...I will try to delete

My father came in to a large sum of money 8 years ago and purchased a new boat and trailer then titling them both in my name. I recently received a letter stating that I owe taxes on this boat and trailer for those 8 years and that I will be garnished soon if the taxes are not paid, approximately $4000.00. I have never had possession of the boat, which I realize means nothing since he titled them in my name.

He supposedly did this to ensure that if something happened to him I would have the boat and trailer. I thought no more about this until I received the letter for back taxes, that I cannot afford to pay.

I assume all these years the tax bill has been going to him until Caroline County was able to find my current address to send me the demand for payment. I am hoping someone here can tell me if I have any legal right to go on his property and take the boat and trailer to sell it to pay these taxes. It is heart-breaking to have to try to retrieve the boat from him; if I don't I am going to have to pay all the back taxes and any future tax while it sits on his property. I can't get it out of my name unless I can get the boat, he will not let me have the boat.

My sister found and gave me both titles that he had showing the boat is titled to me. I love my father very much, I never thought he would do this and put me in this predicament. I just don't know what my options are or what I can do.
