Transfer of Title: Late Title Transfer, Uninsured Driving, Tickets for Expired Tags

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: washington.

I bought a van from family in colorado in october of 2014 and made some huge, stupid mistakes. After transfering title and signing/dating documents i never officialized the paperwork with the wa dol. Due to confusion between my immediate family and myself, I was unable to insure the vehicle for awhile and though many attempts were made my life (fulltime cook and +22hrs a week as an audio intern) took over and I stupidly continued driving the vehicle for several months with expired CO tags, never getting pulled over but receiving two expired tag tickets from parking in busy areas in Seattle. I have finally realized that I can't wait for help from family and need to insure the vehicle and have stopped driving as I work with an agent. So my title has a distant date, is now 4,000 miles off, my tags are expired, i have two expired tag tickets, and I have yet to take it to the DOL. My agent told me if my aunt and uncle agreed, I might try changing the date on the documents and I am thinking that at that point changing the mileage might be a good idea too, but I am.honestly.at a loss. What should I do to get this vehicle legally running again?
